For those of you who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints know just who Dallin H Oaks is. For those who are not familiar with this Church, Elder Oaks is a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for our church. Please visit this website for more information regarding our beliefs.
While we were in Montana visiting my family, they had their Stake Conference. It happened to be time for their Stake President to be released and a new one called. They have a new area authority so Elder Oaks was asked to come and preside at the meeting. It was such a privilege to be in the same room as Elder Oaks and to hear him speak. He had many great things to say. The one thing that stood out to me the most was when he spoke about Elder M. Russel Ballard's talk from the recent October General Conference. He spoke about the importance of the name of our church and how important it is to clarify that we follow Christ and not Mormon. That is one of the reason's it is important to emphasize that we are the The Church of Jesus Christ and not the Mormon church. It was amazing to hear him speak! The whole experience was fantastic but the thing that stood out most about Elder Oaks was what he did even before the general session of conference started. He arrived an hour before the meeting was supposed to start and walked up and down every row in the chapel shaking the hands of the members and welcoming them to conference. It was a powerful manifestation that he recognizes the importance of the members of the Church and doesn't just come to do his duty and then go on to the next one. I was able to shake the hand of that wonderful man and I will never forget the power of the Spirit radiating from his being. It was a true manifestation that he is called of God and is truly doing his will. I love this Gospel with all my heart and am grateful to be a part of it. I am grateful for my knowledge that we are being led by men who are truly called of God and carry His Spirit with them. I know that this Church is true and that the things that it teaches helps us to face the trials of each day. It is a true blessing in my life!
