Flu and the New Year

Once Christmas had come and gone we were dreading having to go back to work. We were definitely loving the family time! Little did we know that we really weren't going to be making it back to work. Tuesday afternoon, Chris started complaining about having an upset stomach. He thought he had just eaten too much at lunch and was overly full. Later that evening it hit. Poor guy started throwing up and then we knew he had caught Clair's flu bug. We were at Laurie and Clair's when it hit so when we got back home we got him all settled in bed and then I went to keep Tyson company before his bed time. Then outta no where I got hit! We called Clair and asked him to come get Tyson and let him stay over at their house that night so that Chris and I could focus on getting better. It was a really good thing too because Chris and I both had very horrible nights. We learned the next morning that Laurie had been hit with the big during the night also so Clair was very awesome and stayed home from work to take care of Tyson and then let him stay over one more night to be safe. Chris was feeling better by Wednesday morning but it definitely took me longer to kick the bug. By Thursday morning I was feeling well enough to eat but not much. It took another day for me to really feel better.

Then came New Year's Eve. Chris's cousin Sean decided to come down from Rexburg to spend some time with us. It was great fun to have him over but before he got there Chris and I spent the morning deep cleaning the house to help get rid of all the germs left over from our bug. I also went and cleaned my Grandmas Sheldon's house and went to the grocery store. I made my Dad's delicious meatballs so that we could have meatball sandwiches for dinner. We had our neighbors Kris and Celeste and their 2 kids over as well. We got the kids ready for bed and put them down between 8 and 9. Then we broke out Settlers of Catan. A little bit into the game everyone started asking if I was ok and telling me that I was looking pale. I finally decided that I was just too tired to play and that was why I was getting my awful headache so I quit playing and curled up on the couch. I fell into some kind of half awake, half asleep state. I swear I heard everything that was happening but I never chimed in or anything even though I seemed like I wanted too. They woke me up about midnight and we drank a little sparkling cider and then I was off to bed as our neighbors headed for the door. Sean stayed the night at our house and so Chris stayed up with him for a couple more hours and had a little bit of guy time. We were blessed to have our church time moved to 11 so we got to sleep in a little bit. We made some yummy chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast and then cleaned up a few of the dishes from the night before so that we wouldn't have a huge mess.
It was over all a pretty great week....not. The flu threw us off but the New Year was wonderful! What a wonderful time to reflect on the last year and decide what things in your life need to be bettered! I am sure that as the month goes on we will discover a few more things that we want to change and make better. I hope you all had a great New Year. Here's to 2012 being fabulous!
