BLACK FRIDAY

Man do I HATE working Black Friday! It is only for one simple reason that I so greatly dislike it, $1.29/YD FLANNEL!!! That is the biggest seller every Black Friday, well at least for those of us who work for the lovely company of JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts that is! It was a MADHOUSE!!! When I arrived just shortly after 5:30 AM to prepare to open, there was a line of 50+ people. They were very polite and didn't have any objections to them letting me in and not them. Then with in a little less than half an hour that crowd doubled. Brandee, the manager, almost got plowed over when she opened the doors at 6 AM! The race was on! Carolyn promptly made an announcement informing the shoppers that there was a table in the back of the store that had full bolts of the $1.29 flannel on it and that if they were interested in purchasing a full bolt there was no need to bring it to the cut counter but to take it directly to the register, which was where I was working. Many people just bought one or two bolts but the good majority bought TONS AND TONS!!! To be completely honest, I was not aware that we had that many full bolts of material and was caught off guard when after 3 hours of people bringing up so many bolts there was still more coming! My biggest sale of the day was $686! It was a big sale and I wouldn't be so surprised if it hadn't have been all $1.29/YD flannel! She was buying for a company. They make receiving blankets and other cute things out of it. After my lunch, I was put to work at the cut counter! I called my first number only to have a customer saying "You just called D51 and I am E51. Does that really mean that I have to wait for another 100 numbers to be called before it is my turn?" I had the unfortunate task of informing her that she did have to wait. When she went back to her fabric, I noticed that she had 2 bolts of nylon net. All i could think to myself was, Why in the heck would you come to get just 2 pieces of fabric that isn't even on sale on BLACK FRIDAY of all days???? It didn't make any logical sense to me. When I left at 2:45 PM I was completely wiped out. The day did not end there though. When I got home, it was my turn to take Tyson so that Chris could get caught up on homework. I finally made it to bed by about 10. Sadly Tyson woke many times that night and even though Chris got up to take care of him, I didn't sleep until they were both back to sleep.
I was up by 6 AM on Saturday and to work by 6:45 AM. I thought I was facing another long day. It turned out to be fairly slow but I guess when you compare anything to the day before it was definitely slow. I worked the register and then got to help with a Cricut demonstration! For those who don't know, a Cricut is a diecut machine used mainly for scrapbooking. We were doing a demonstration because a Doorbuster that morning had been the Cricut Personal Cutter.
The only Cricut machine that our education department has is the Cricut Expressions, which is bigger than the Personal. It is the newer of the two models and was a little more advanced. People were asking Linda questions about the Personal cutter but she really didn't know some of the answers because she had never used one before. That is why I got to help! I own one of the Cricut Personal Cutters and love it! I don't use it much right now but will when I figure out how to better balance baby and doing other things besides cleaning! I'm still trying to figure it out! I loved helping the people learn what to do or what the small differences were between the machines. Later, they pulled out the new Cricut Cake! I never really wanted to buy one but was always interested in how it worked. Seeing it do it's thing confirmed my desire to NOT own one. Don't get me wrong they are cool but after all the hype about them I was a little disappointed. When the demo was over I helped clean up and was excited to see that I only had a few minutes left until it was time for me to go! I was so thrilled.
I got home and changed clothes and then we loaded in the car and were on our way to Logan. We had the Rood Thanksgiving get together to attend at the Bluebird Cafe there in Logan. We got there and there was discussion of attending a movie. We passed because of Tyson and with how tired I was I definitely wouldn't have made through. Then we were surprised when Kevin, Marie, and Sean passed because it was their idea. We then learned that Sean was in A Fib and needed to go to the hospital but wanted to come and enjoy dinner first. After dinner, Chris and I headed over to Kevin and Marie's place to help give Sean a blessing and then we were happily on our way home!
It was quite the weekend and although I had a good time with family and a some what good time working, I am still worn out from it and lacking in the sleep department!
