Colton J Rood

Colton was born on Thursday, Jul. 26th at 2:14 PM. He weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and was 20 and 3/4 inches long.

After my lack of progress at my appointment on the 23rd, I decided to be induced and the 26th was the earliest date available! We arrived early that morning for paperwork and I was set up and ready to go in my room by 730 AM. They had me hooked up to my IV for the pitocin and the penicillin that I needed because I tested positive for Group B Strep. At 830 my doctor came in to check me and break my water. I was dilated to a 3. It was a cm more than I was on Monday was encouraging. At 1030 my nurse, Linda, checked me again. Disappointment hit as I was told that I was only dilated to a 4 at that point and was still only 70 % effaced. I got the epidural around noon. Linda came and checked me again at 1230. More disappointment came as I was told I was at a 5 and still at 70%. She was perplexed by the fact that I wasn't thinning out. A little over a half hour later she checked me again and I was at a 6 and was completely thinned. I was so overjoyed to hear this. Dr. Boheen came in about 20 min. later and checked me again and I was at an 8! Yippee! She told me she would be back in 20 to check me again unless I started feeling pressure before then. Chris and I were finishing a movie and as I just laid there feeling quite uncomfortable as it was I started feeling something but i wasn't sure if it was pressure so I decided to wait a few minutes. Well 10 minutes later I decided I need to call the nurse. I still wasn't sure it was pressure but I figured it was best to be safe than sorry. They came in and Dr. Boheen went to check me and all she felt was his head. He had already descended into the birth canal and was on his way with or without help! They scurried to get everything they needed and then it was time to push. They said one good push and he should be out. It actually took a couple contractions but we learned it was a little more difficult because the cord was around his neck. She quickly cut it and within seconds he was screaming and crying! It was 210 when I started pushing and he was here by 214. What a rush! My doctor told me that things went wonderfully and that although I tore last time, I was blessed to not tear at all this time!

That night family came to visit. Chris's parents and my mom and brother brought Tyson. Tyson was so excited that baby Colton was no longer in Mommy's tummy and showed a little bit of interest in him but not much. It was wonderful to be able to see him and get to show him his new baby brother. He is already a great big brother, trying to help with everything.

First Family Picture!
Me and my sweet boys!

I am so grateful that everything went smoothly and am very proud to be the mother of 2 beautiful healthy boys!
